The riskiest towns for ticks in each state
More than a quarter of the 12,276 towns we score reach high tick risk at the summer peak, but the risk swings sharply from one town to the next, even inside the same county. In Denton County, TX, DISH rates high while Corral City, same county and same Lyme rate, rates moderate, because one is far more wooded than the other.

The bigger picture
Tick risk across the Northeast Lyme belt
Zooming in on the Northeast, the heart of the country's Lyme belt: every county shaded by the average peak-season risk of its towns. Risk tracks forest, not population. It runs hot up the wooded coast of Maine, through the Hudson Valley and rural Pennsylvania, and cools over the dense cities and cleared farmland.

How the ranking works
The Today score (0 to 100) is each town's live tick risk, the same number its own page shows. It combines three things, all in the table: the county's tick-borne-disease burden (CDC county Lyme, 2022 to 2023), the town's forest cover (10-meter satellite), and today's weather, which decides whether ticks are actually questing.
Because weather is local and keeps changing, the ranking moves day to day. Two neighboring towns split on forest cover; a dry week can drop a town below a wetter one. CDC publishes Lyme data by county only, so that column is county-wide, while forest and weather are per town. This is modeled environmental risk, not a count of local cases, and not medical advice. Full methodology.
